Summary

The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around – and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old he’s been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. Then a stunning opportunity presents itself, in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors, and he has to seize his chance to lose his dream forever.

What happened in Weep two hundred years ago to cut it off from the rest of the world? What exactly did the Godslayer slay that went by the name of god? And what is the mysterious problem he now seeks help in solving?

The answers await in Weep, but so do more mysteries – including the blue-skinned goddess who appears in Lazlo’s dreams. How did he dream her before he knew she existed? And if all the gods are dead, why does she seem so real?

In this sweeping and breathtaking new novel by National Book Award finalist Laini Taylor, author of the New York Times bestselling Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy, the shadow of the past is as real as the ghosts who haunt the citadel of murdered gods. Fall into a mythical world of dread and wonder, moths and nightmares, love and carnage.

About the Author

Hi! I write fantasy books. My latest is STRANGE THE DREAMER, about a young librarian, a mythic lost city, and the half-human children of murdered gods. Check it out 🙂 Before that I wrote the DAUGHTER OF SMOKE & BONE trilogy, which has been translated into 32 languages. It’s about a blue-haired art student raised by monsters, a broken angel, and a war that has raged for 1000 years in another world. I also wrote LIPS TOUCH: THREE TIMES, which was a National Book Award finalist, and the DREAMDARK books. As well as various short stories and novellas.

My Review

Thank you so much to Jenni at Hodder for allowing me the opportunity to be on the tour for this wonderful read!

We first meet and learn all about Lazlo Strange, found abandoned and presumably an orphan. He was given the name Lazlo and all orphaned/abandoned children’s surname are strange. The imagination of this boy is unreal! The mysteries he wants to solve and there really is nothing you won’t like about him. We do skip ahead a few years and when we get to the main thread of the book he’s 20 and working as an apprentice librarian. I think this is the perfect job for Lazlo.

We then meet Sarai and the other “Godspawn” personally I thought Sarai’s name was beautiful and definitely one to go on the to remember list. I loved Sarai, even though she was supposed to be evil and “hate” the humans.

Lazlo gets the opportunity to go to the once place he has always dreamed, wished and wanted to go, the city of Weep. The locals of Weep need help and that remains a mystery until we get to Weep. I will not reveal all don’t worry. Lazlo and Sarai find each other in not so conventional ways. They quickly fall in love. This feels like an eternal love to me and it felt wonderful to read and be a part of. I felt like I wanted to turn my back to give them privacy. But all I’m saying for the end of the book is WHY OH WHY!?!? Their life had only just started together!

Laini Taylor has a wonderful imagination and the descriptions really made me feel like I was there and I could see it in my mind. It truly is a magical read and I encourage everyone to read it. The next book Muse of Nightmares is definitely on my read pile when I can get a copy. This will be released in the autumn.

After all this praise I’m giving Strange The Dreamer I almost forgot to give it it’s rating. Of course I’m giving it a 5/5 rating, I wouldn’t give it anything less! A beautiful, magical read and it will be hard to come by another read as fascinating anytime soon. Below is all the other places the tour has been to! Go and check them out!
