Blog Tour: Review – Angelica Stone by Susi Osborne

Blog Tour

Today on my blog I have a review of Angelica Stone by Susi Osborne

The Blurb! angelica-stone

Following years of sexual abuse, Angelica is brought up in care. As a teenager she absconds, living on the streets, before eventually being forced into prostitution to survive. She learns to rely solely on herself and is reluctant to allow anyone to get close to her, until she forms an unlikely bond with Lola. In contrast, Lola is from what appears to be a happy middle-class background – but all is not what it seems…

Slowly, as their friendship grows, cracks start to appear in Lola’s life, and a series of events leave her on the verge of ruin. Can these women break the cycle of their lives? Or will they succumb to the path laid out before them? Angelica Stone is an emotional rollercoaster of laughter and tears as the women embark on a journey of self-discovery, with the support of one another.

Susi Osborne is the author of The Ripples of Life, Grace & Disgrace, Secrets, Lies & Butterflies and Angelica Stone. She lives in Cheshire with her Scottish husband, her actress daughter and their two mischievous little dogs. Susi also has an adult son and a grandson who live nearby. Amongst friends their house is known affectionately (she hopes!) as the Osborne madhouse, for obvious reasons.

Before she became a writer, Susi worked in libraries for many years. She also worked as a classroom assistant in a junior school. In addition to her writing Susi organises Northwich LitFest, which she has been running for the past seven years. Alongside the writing of her latest book, Angelica Stone, Susi has been raising money for Centrepoint, the charity for youth homelessness, and has set up a Just Giving Page for the charity in her name.

Susi is a firm believer in the fact that it’s never too late to do anything. ‘You only have one life – go out and grab it with both hands!’

My Thoughts!

I feel that from the start I have to warn people about some serious trigger warnings! Please do be warned that there is sexual abuse from a young age, sexual abuse as an adult, prostitution, and homelessness in this book.

Lola is your average suburban 28 year old. In all honesty she is a bit naïve about things that happen in the world. She was jilted at the altar and had to move back in with her parents, who are not what they seem and they have a lot of secrets between them. Although I did like the character, she is naïve about the world, but she has a heart of gold and this is what I liked about her. She will go out of her way, above and beyond, for the people she loves.

Angelica “Angel” Stone has had it bad. I felt from her from the start and the moment I read her story. Yes, tears were shed (luckily not at the train station or on the train) as her story is heart breaking. I loved Angel, she is a strong woman that has already endured so much, but the universe wasn’t finished with her yet. She has to get out of her very abusive relationship, but she also has Rafferty, her son, to care for.

The parents! Well, they certainly had a healthy relationship, but who on earth could of seen that coming!? Obviously no spoilers, but this is one hell of a twist! Read it to find out!!!

This book gave me an insight into a world I don’t know anything about and it really opened my eyes. Angel’s story (although fiction) touched me I think. It really does go all the way down to the nitty gritty details. I loved the way that this book flowed. How it seemed like Angel was narrating her past and knew it all word for word. I felt as though she was right there in front of me telling me her story.

It is raw, it has passion, it has secrets and lies, murder and deceit, not to mention the trigger warnings I’ve already mentioned. This has a bit of everything and I could not put it down, I’ve given this wonderful read a 5/5 rating. I don’t think I’ll be able to recommend this book enough.

  1. I just wanted to say thank you so much for the great review you gave to Angelica Stone on your blog today. Could I ask, without wishing to sound cheeky in any way, whether it would be possible for you to put the review onto Amazon for me please? Heaps of thanks once again.
