Today on my blog I have a review for the book Three Bloody Pieces which is the first in the Caitlyn Series by Elizabeth Davies. There is also a fantastic giveaway as well!
Queen, widow, beggar – Lady Caitlyn is all three, and now she can add murderer to the list.
When death and treachery propels her south to Normandy, to seek sanctuary with the exiled Prince Alfred, visions of a woman with ancient eyes travel with her.
Herleva is a woman filled with ambition and greed. A woman who intends to be more than a commoner. A woman who gets what she wants by whatever means possible, even if she has to practice the dark arts to achieve her goals.
A woman who is a witch.
Caitlyn finds herself caught up in a magic which changes her very being. A magic which produces a king to change the lives of every man, woman, and child in England.

About the Author
Elizabeth Davies is a paranormal author, whose books have a romantic flavour with more than a hint of suspense. And death. There’s usually death…
As everyone must know by now I have quite the varied taste in genres and this one is no exception. It has a bit of everything, a witch, an apprentice, a cat, blood, gore, murder, and secrets. Well, when a book starts with a husband laying at your feet in “Three Bloody Pieces” that’s one hell of a start! Don’t panic, there’s no spoilers from me.
I love that this is mostly based around fact but of course there is the added twist of witchcraft which for me worked so so well. It was a bit of a “Brucie Bonus” if you like. I think this is perfect book for the younger generation to be able to get their head around because of the facts based in the book, but it has enough of the supernatural aspect to keep them interested.
I read this book in a few days (darn work getting in the way!), and although the book is spanned over a year it is done at quite a fast pace. A couple of times I didn’t actually realise that we had skipped a few months until it was mentioned. But this is not necessarily a bad thing as it certainly keeps you on your toes.
I loved reading about all the characters and felt for Caitlyn (and Cat 😉 ) the only one I didn’t take to was Idris but all will become clear when you read the book. Herleva, is a witch and actually does some pretty unspeakable things, but she did it to put her step daughter into a better position.
This book flowed really well and kept you hooked from start to finish. I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series. I’ve given this a 4/5 rating.
